At Total IVF Solutions, we assist international patients in accessing advanced fertility treatments in India, including IVF with Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) and Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS). These cutting-edge techniques help identify genetic abnormalities in embryos before implantation, increasing the chances of a healthy pregnancy and reducing the risk of inherited disorders.
PGD is recommended for couples with a known genetic condition, ensuring that only embryos free from specific diseases are transferred. PGS, on the other hand, screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, improving implantation rates and lowering the chances of miscarriage. Both methods significantly enhance the success of IVF, especially for patients with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss, advanced maternal age, or failed IVF cycles.
India has emerged as a leading destination for affordable and high-quality fertility treatments, offering state-of-the-art technology and experienced specialists at a fraction of the cost in Western countries. At Total IVF Solutions, we simplify the journey for international patients by connecting them with the best IVF clinics, expert embryologists, and personalized treatment plans.
Take the next step toward parenthood with confidence—explore IVF with PGD and PGS in India today!
What is PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis)?
PGD is a type of genetic screening that is used to detect the genes linked to specific diseases. If either man or woman has a family history of genetic disease, this test can make sure that a child born out of IVF will not have that condition. Some diseases that PGD is used to test for include :
• Huntington’s disease
• Marfan Syndrome
• Cystic Fibrosis
• Haemophilia
• Muscular Dystrophy
• An abnormal number of chromosomes
What is PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening)?
PGS is used to determine if the cells in the embryo have the correct number of chromosomes. Normal, healthy humans have a total of 23 chromosomes. Usually, 2-3 embryos are implanted in the uterus to maximise the chances of a successful pregnancy. The risk of an abnormal number of chromosomes increases with a woman’s age. Thus, this test is recommended for women whose age is 35 years or above and who are trying to have a family with IVF. The test is also recommended for women who have had recurrent miscarriages.
PGS is not used to test specific diseases. As compared to the PGD test, it is a simple tes,t and it can be done to detect Down’s syndrome. This disease is caused by extra chromosomes present in a person’s DNA.
PGS is recommended :
• To the women who have advanced maternal age
• Couples with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss.
• Couples with recurrent miscarriages
• Male partner with severe male infertility
Difference between PGS and PGD:
Parameter |
Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) |
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) |
Purpose |
Screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities. |
Screens embryos for specific genetic conditions. |
Scope |
Assesses overall chromosomal health. |
Targets specific genetic mutations. |
Application |
Maximizes the chances of successful implantation and pregnancy. |
Reduces the risk of passing on inherited genetic conditions. |
Genetic Analysis |
Identifies chromosomal abnormalities using advanced techniques. |
Detects specific genetic mutations associated with known disorders. |
Outcome |
Identifies chromosomally normal embryos. |
Selects embryos free from specific genetic conditions. |
In summary, PGS focuses on overall chromosomal health to maximise IVF success, while PGD targets specific genetic conditions to reduce the risk of inherited disorders. We conduct PGD & PGS Tests for IVF at our hospital in Delhi.
What is the process of PGS and PGD?
PGS and PGD screening are performed on both embryos during the IVF cycle. The following steps are performed during this procedure :
IVF and Embryo Creation: In this procedure, the eggs are retrieved from ovaries and put together with sperm in vitro to create embryos.
Embryo Biopsy: Some cells are carefully removed from the embryo at the blastocyst stage.
Genetic Testing: It is used for PGD to test the genes related to particular genes. For PGS, the embryos are screened for chromosomal abnormalities.
Embryo Selection: The embryos that do not show genetic or chromosomal defects are then selected and transferred to the uterus.
Embryo Transfer: The chosen embryo is implanted into the uterus, thereby increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy.
What are the benefits of PGS and PGD?
• Increased IVF Success Rate
• Reduced Risk of Genetic Disorders
• Provides tailored treatment plans
• Advanced Technology is equipped to deliver you the best solutions.
Types of Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) Available in India
IVF Technique |
Purpose |
Benefits |
Recommended For |
PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy) |
Screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities. |
Ensures the correct number of chromosomes (euploidy), reducing implantation failure, miscarriage, or chromosomal disorders like Down syndrome. |
Women 35 years or older, recurrent miscarriage cases, and couples with previous IVF failures. |
PGT-SR (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Structural Rearrangements) |
Detects chromosomal structural rearrangements such as translocations, inversions, or deletions. |
Helps select embryos with a balanced chromosomal structure to improve the chances of a healthy baby. |
Patients with a history of chromosomal rearrangements leading to pregnancy loss or birth defects. |
PGT-M (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Disorders) |
Detects single-gene disorders in embryos. |
Prevents the transmission of inherited genetic conditions. |
Families with a history of inherited disorders like Thalassemia, Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle Cell Anemia, and Muscular Dystrophy. |
In addition to PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) and PGS (Preimplantation Genetic By integrating PGT-A, PGT-SR, and PGT-M into IVF treatments, Total IVF Solutions ensures a higher success rate, reduced genetic risks, and a healthier start for your baby.
